Elevation displayed as metres when it should be feet

I am importing routes from veloroutes.org in KML format but the altitude and therefore ascent/descent figures are displayed by TrailRunner in metres but the figures are actually in feet. If I change my preferences to Imperial and import the files again it tells me my altitude is over 30000ft - an impossible figure. It seems the numbers are right but the units are wrong.
